Facebook-owned WhatsApp launched a new location-sharing feature on earlier this month that will help users to share their real-time location with family and friends. The new feature is termed as “Live Location” and is available for both Android and iOS users.
The end-to-end encrypted feature lets people control who they share location with and for how long. You can choose to stop sharing at any time or let the Live Location self expire. The new “Live Location” feature is a great safety tool for persons.
To share your Live Location open a chat with the person or group. Tap on attachments and select “Location“.
Here you will see a new option of “Share Live Location” along with the conventional “Send your current location“. Choose this option to share your location in real-time.
If in a group, two or more people decide to share their location at the same place then a common map is used to track the live status of the person. Live location is time bound and can vary from 15 minutes to 8 hours. However, it is possible to stop the sharing of location manually by tapping upon “Stop Sharing“.
